The Science (Fauci) Prompted the "Science" He Weaponized
Don't expect any apologies from his apologists
We now have news that, contrary to popular narrative, Anthony Fauci prompted a paper to be written (and had input on said paper), that he himself then used as evidence to counter the growing Wuhan lab leak theory in early 2020.
Emails have been released that show one Dr. Anderson writing to Nature asking them to publish a paper later known as “Proximal Origin”. These emails state that the paper was prompted by Fauci (emphasis in original story);
“Prompted by Jeremy Farrah [sic], Tony Fauci, and FrancisCollins, Eddie Holmes, Andrew Rambaut, Bob Garry, Ian Lipkin, and myself have been working through much of the (primarily) genetic data to provide agnostic and scientifically informed hypothesis around the origins of the virus.”
This paper that was “prompted by Fauci” (amongst others) also had a very specific agenda (emphasis in original story);
According to previously released e-mails, this assertion is also demonstrably false. OnFebruary 8, 2020, Dr. Andersen stated:
“Our main work over the last couple of weeks has been focused on trying to disprove any type of lab theory.”
Science is not the domain of trying, specifically, to “disprove” anything but don’t take my word for it. Let’s look at “Understanding Science” at the UC Museum of Paleontology at UC Berkeley:
“Science accepts or rejects ideas based on the evidence; it does not prove or disprove them.”
And yet major players, Fauci included, pushed for a paper that sought to disprove something that was very specifically tied to their own funding, oversight, and authority.
The lab leak theory would impugn Fauci’s own record (amongst others) considering the evidence that his agency was funding gain of function research at that very lab.
But nobody was allowed to say that because to say that was an attack on Fauci and an attack on Fauci was an attack on science;
“Attacks on me, quite frankly, are attacks on science,” Fauci said Wednesday. “All of the things I have spoken about, consistently, from the very beginning, have been fundamentally based on science. Sometimes those things were inconvenient truths for people.”
Inconvenient, like a lab leak theory.
I guess it wouldn’t be fair to say that Fauci manipulated the science considering that so many people spent the last few years acting as though he, himself, IS the science because he dogmatically claimed it to be thus.
The only rationale for believing that Fauci IS the science that I can sort of figure out is if people were just mistaking “the science” for his preferred pronouns and they didn’t want to sound like an istaphobe for denying this assertion.
Therefore Mr. Science was never to be questioned. Mr. Science was to be obeyed. All Hail the High Priest of Science, Forever and Ever Amen.
Scientific proselytizing aside, the news from the “Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic” should make a lot of people question Fauci’s narrative that was so readily peddled and weaponized over the last three years.
A little skepticism goes a long way and I’d love to see skepticism come back with a vengeance.
I’m old enough to remember when science that was funded by ExxonMobil was considered “tainted” by Big Oil and considered anathema to science owing to the appearance of conflicts of interest. The same suspicion we typically see of Big Oil and other Evil BIG Businesses should be applied to Big Government and all of their cronies, sycophants, and benefactors.
As we watch so many narratives that were built over the last three years crumble we’re watching goalpost shifting and a lazy narrative change.
The argument from so many today is that “the science has evolved” but this story now shows us that privileged people with special access and power had their thumbs on the scales of science from the jump. Nothing evolved, it’s just not being obscured as easily any longer.
The only way the people who got this so wrong can, today, claim that they’ve been “following the science” is because Fauci declared it to be so and they obediently trailed behind him like lovestruck puppies.
It’s disgusting and everybody who fell for it should take a moment to reflect on how they were manipulated and work towards making sure people like The Science, I mean people like Fauci, aren’t able to do it again.
