In 2018, 60% of California voters thought they were ditching Daylight Savings Time. Here we are 6 years late and it's darker and hour earlier than we want. What the shit?
Well, essentially the Democrats hate us.
In that 6 years precisely fuckall has happened in California except promises to study the issue as if it hadn't already, thoroughly, been "studied" prior to the issue going before the voters 3 election cycles ago.
The real problem is that that vote was trivial because Congress also hates us and in order for California - or others - to stop having to move our clocks forward and back each year, the law needs to be changed and they refuse to change it.
In 2021 Marco Rubio introduced the Sunshine Protection Act that would have allowed States to end this nonsense and it passed the Senate with unanimous consent and do you know what happened next?
Nancy Fucking Pelosi sat on it. It didn't even make it to a committee.
Skip ahead and Rubio has re-introduced the bill - a bill I must stress ALREADY passed the Senate 3 years ago - and Cryin' Chuck Schumer vote bring it back up for a vote so it's going to die again under Democratic leadership and we have to keep futzing with our clocks because for some godforsaken reason we aren't allowed to have State's Rights on this, of all issues.
I never expected anything from Kamala Harris but she was in the United States Senate, from California, when every Democrat in this State was paying lip service to ending this Daylight Savings Time forward and back nonsense.
Now she's Vice President which makes her the President of the Senate and in those roles she's utterly failed to sway her party to stop clock blocking us and I find that completely unacceptable.
The most frustrating part of this is that if we wanted to keep Standard Time - which means darker earlier - that's already legal. But if we want it to stay lighter longer, Congress needs to act on what should be one of the least controversial bills possible because it would only send the issue back to the States.
And yet, here we are all these years later, and every time a Democratic Majority has the issue in front of them they hit the snooze button on allowing us to wake up from our season depression.
